Most Via readers track down restaurants by asking a local: a cabbie, bellhop, or mail carrier. Here are other ways to find great eats.

"In a small town," writes Cindy Hunt of Keizer, Ore., "look for the spot with the most cars parked out front."

"Follow your nose," suggests Malena Lopez-Maggi of San Rafael, Calif. "Walk down a street until you're seduced by the most alluring smell."

"Phone the chamber of commerce—a great yet often forgotten resource," says Karla Morton of Payson, Utah.

"Check out the Where to Dine section of AAA TourBooks," advises Karen Fusto of Reno.

"I always consult," Rob Bregoff of San Francisco says, "for reviews on everything from taco trucks to the French Laundry."
