Sunriver Resort's lodge holds new dining spots.

Many of us feel nostalgic for the long, sun-soaked days of summer camp—but we would happily forget the mosquito nets and canteen food. This is where Sunriver Resort comes in. Less than half an hour from Bend, Ore., its 3,300-acre spread is packed with activities, including floats on the Deschutes River, loping horseback rides through the hills, kayaking trips, and tennis. But instead of tent cabins, guests bunk in rustic-chic lodge rooms, condos, and fairway-front vacation houses.

Getting around is as unfussy as hopping on a bike. On warm afternoons, families can pedal to two pools including the new Cove, featuring a waterslide and nature discovery area. Evenings, guests gather at the beer garden or nosh at the lodge’s updated dining options: Twisted River Tavern for cocktails and bar food, the Living Room for small plates, and Carson’s American Kitchen for full-service casual dining.

Many visitors intend to go brewery hopping in Bend or hiking on nearby Mount Bachelor, but at Sunriver, car keys have a way of gathering dust. (800) 801-8765,
