Bass Lake, California:
A Place to Cool Off

Bass Lake California

By Keri Modrall

Just 14 miles south of Yosemite, five–mile–long Bass Lake buzzes with at–tractions. Rent a ski boat or a Jet Ski (559-642-3200), or take a one–hour cruise to learn about local history and wildlife (559-642-3121). Hook a bass or a trout, then barbecue it at one of many picnic sites. The area also offers plenty of camping, but if you crave more luxurious digs, head to the Pines Resort (559-642-3121). On Friday evenings through Labor Day, musicians heat things up shoreside with Jazz on the Lake (800-350-7463).
