Who's your favorite Elvis? The skinny, down-home, bluesy kid with moves that drove teenage girls nuts? Perhaps it's the army Elvis or the glitzy Vegas Elvis sporting jumpsuits, rhinestones, and absurd sideburns.
Whichever you prefer, he's rep-resented among the 2,000 pieces of memorabilia in the 8,300-square-foot Elvis-A-Rama Museum in Las Vegas. A wall of album covers from all the King's singles and LPs provides an Elvis time line—from his 1954 Sun Records recording of "That's All Right, Mama" to the 1977 RCA release of "My Way." Nearby is the shiny black 1955 Cadillac limo that started out white, until one day Elvis decided he liked black better.
In a case with gold lamé jackets, a pink shirt, and a yellow Sun Records Windbreaker, Elvis's size 10/11 blue suede shoes are displayed in all their brushed glory. Perhaps the most famous footwear in the world, next to Judy Garland's ruby slippers, these are the shoes Elvis wore when he appeared July 1, 1956, on Steve Allen's TV show and sang "Hound Dog."
