showgirl at All Access Backstage Walking Tour at Bally’s Las Vegas
A showgirl reveals trade secrets.

By Dean Blaine

Ever wonder what it takes to pull off a Vegas stage show? The new All Access Backstage Walking Tour at Bally's Las Vegas provides a rare peek behind the curtain at one of the city's longest-running shows, Jubilee! Showgirls take groups behind the scenes to discuss costumes, lighting, set design, and hair and makeup. They point out the nooks and crannies of the spectacle's impressive 15-story, 190-foot stage and interpret terms like screw jack or revolve (slang for two types of stage lifts).

Visitors come away with a new appreciation for the time, expense, and creativity involved in a full-scale Las Vegas production. Jubilee! uses nearly 10,000 pounds of jewelry and more than 1,000 costumes costing up to $20,000 apiece.

"We work our tails off," says tour guide Paula Allen, who has 11 costume changes in each performance. Tours take place Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 2 p.m. Information: (877) 374-7469, www.caesars.com/ballys/lasvegas.
