Oregon’s arctic zone
Eskimo art at Jensen Arctic Museum

Carved from softwoods in Chevak, Alaska, in the 1970s, this ceremonial dance mask stands with hundreds of like items in the Jensen Arctic Museum in Monmouth, Ore. It’s the only collection in the West (outside Alaska) focused on the culture of Native peoples living north of the Arctic Circle—especially the Inupiaq and Yupik Eskimos. At Western Oregon University, 590 W. Church St., (503) 838-8468, www.oregonlink.com/arctic.
