Make your hosts a meal as a thank you gift.

No overnight visit is complete without showing thanks to your hosts. VIA readers share their favorite grateful gestures.

“During my stay I cook them a meal,” says Pat Soberanis of Sacramento.

“If your hosts have driven you around, it’s nice to fill their car’s gas tank,” says Holly Dolkas of Auburn, Calif.

“Leave a surprise—flowers, chocolate—for them to find later,” suggests Neetha Nair of Carson City, Nev.

“Give them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant so they can relax,” says Kerry Smith of Springdale, Utah.

“Invite your hosts to be your guests,” says John Wong of Eugene, Ore.

“A handwritten thank-you note speaks volumes,” says Susan Schultz of Santa Rosa, Calif.
