How can drivers and passengers stay entertained on journeys? VIA’s readers share their ideas.

“Blow bubbles in traffc jams and give Tootsie Pops to tollbooth attendants,” says Lee Sonko of San Francisco.

“Pick a few places and characters and take turns making up silly stories about them,” says Kristin Harris of Sandy, Ore.

“Paint watercolors of scenery on postcard-size paper,” says Emily LaScola of Saratoga, Calif. “Then jot notes and mail them.”

“Get a few magic tricks up your sleeve to entertain any restless children,” says Ed Otto of West Point, Utah.

“Explore cloud formations for animals, faces, and other things,” says Susan Barker of Cupertino, Calif.

“Share crossword puzzles—each person solves a clue and then passes the puzzle on,” says Deb Orlando of San Mateo, Calif.
