Relaxing travel

Illustration of traveler relaxing on vacation

Do you actually take the time to relax on your vacation? VIA readers offer tips on how to slow down and rest up.

"On long car trips, steer clear of freeways," advises Ruth Fee of Sunriver, Ore., "and enjoy highways and byways, towns and local color."

"I bring my own pillow from home," writes RuthAnn Spike of Sausalito, Calif. "No stiff neck from an overly fluffy hotel pillow!"

"Get lots of sleep the night before you leave," says Sharon Wong of San Mateo, Calif.

"I bring grandparents along to watch the kids so my husband and I can have a night out," writes Angie Ito of Napa, Calif.

"Spend a day hanging out in the hotel," suggests Cynthia Boman Thompson of Portland. "My family spent a day reading a Harry Potter book."

What tips would you offer solo travelers? Email or write us at the addresses on page 10. If we quote from your letter in a future issue, we'll send you $50 and a VIA T-shirt.
