A Queen sat here

Marie Antoinette’s gilded armchair

What do you get for the girl who has everything? A gilded armchair will do—that is, if she’s Marie Antoinette. This one, adorned with carvings of reeds and wheat ears and upholstered in an embroidered floral pattern, served the young monarch in the Petit Trianon on the grounds of Versailles. It and other objects from the former royal château are making a rare trip outside France and can be seen at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor through February 17.
