Nobody wants to spend a vacation feeling guilty about wasting energy and failing to recycle. Now you don’t have to: A growing number of "green" accommodations are doing their part for the earth. Check out these options.

FAIRMONT, SAN JOSE, CALIF. After replacing 5,900 incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents and recycling 8,600 pounds of old telephone books as part of a chainwide Green Partnership, this downtown high-rise is now helping to clear the air by offering free overnight parking to guests with hybrid vehicles. HABITAT SUITES, AUSTIN, TEXAS This hotel’s efficiency programs conserve big: nearly 2.4 million gallons of water and 38,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually. But it’s the little touches you’ll remember, such as vegan choices at breakfast and a living plant in every room. (800) 535-4663, www.habitatsuites.com.

HILTON, VANCOUVER, WASH. An avant-garde Hilton? Yes, with water-efficient landscaping, a heat-reflecting roof, and CO2 sensors that adjust temperature and light when rooms are vacant. Best of all, you can actually open your window and get a cool breeze from the Columbia River, not an air-conditioner. (800) 445-8667, www.hilton.com.

HOTEL TRITON, SAN FRANCISCO At this überhip Union Square boutique hotel, check in to one of the ecorooms featuring organic bedding and earth-friendly bath products. (800) 800-1299, www.hoteltriton.com.
