a sousaphone

Composer John Philip Sousa gave us 135 military marches and a twist on the orchestral tuba. The sousaphone has a rotating bell that makes for easier playing while marching. See a 1918 sousaphone and some 450 other rare or vintage instruments at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, Calif. (877) 551-9976, www.museumofmakingmusic.org.
