VIA's readers respond to past articles about Hoover Dam's new bridge, the Parthenon, and other stories.
happy to be ’cross
In your recent story “A New Marvel at Hoover Dam” (November/December), you wrote that the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge would open in November. In a very pleasant surprise for travelers, the new bridge opened early. We were able to drive across on October 20.

Perfect postcard
Your Postcard article (“The Parthenon,” November/December) gave a wonderful background on what may be the most perfect building ever constructed. The Parthenon has indeed inspired many public buildings, most notably the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture in Washington, D.C. VIA readers can also visit an exact replica of the Parthenon, complete with a roof, in Nashville, Tenn.

our own private Idaho
In the Go List (November/December), we read that the Sawtooth Scenic Byway in Idaho between Shoshone and Sun Valley goes over the Galena Pass and provides views of the Boulder, White Cloud, and Smoky mountains as well as the Sawtooth Range. But to see those sights you have to drive north of Sun Valley to Stanley. Are you sure you got your directions right?

We made an error here. The route runs between Shoshone in the south and Stanley in the north, passing Sun Valley resort along the way. For more on the resort, see page 38. —Editor
Carrying on
I took exception to one of the travel tips in your Go List. Please do not encourage air travelers to bring their luggage aboard rather than checking it. It is truly frustrating to be unable to stow your one carry-on bag because other travelers have brought on their entire wardrobe, a small car, two beach umbrellas, and an ice chest. I’m exaggerating to make a point: The cabins of airplanes have become very crowded with bags these days. I wish the airlines would crack down on those who flout the rules limiting what they carry on.
