True independent spirits attend this less commercial film festival showcasing close to 100 narrative, animation, and documentary short films plus several feature length special screenings. Many critically acclaimed directors can trace their start to this festival, including Marc Forster, who won the 1996 audience award for his first film Loungers, then went on to direct Halle Berry's Oscar-winning performance in Monster's Ball.
