National Cowboy Poetry Gathering

When this nationwide poetry gathering visits town, Elko, Nev., becomes the capital for literary cowpokes. This shindig features an exhibit on the Italian cowboy (buttero) and performances by more than 50 poets and musical acts including Sourdough Slim and The Quebe Sisters Band, the latter of which appeared on A Prairie Home Companion. Acclaimed poet James Galvin, who also works part of the year on a ranch in Wyoming, will deliver the keynote talk.
