Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist

He may be best known for his famous ballerinas, but an exhibit of 40 prints, pastels, lithographs, and original drawings, reveals the Edgar Degas’s broader interests.  Examine intimate sketches of the Frenchman’s relatives, including Mlle. Dembowksa, a delicate portrait created during the artist’s stay in Florence, Italy, alongside works such as Plough Horse, so detailed that you expect to see the animal’s muscles twitch. Also on display are rare pieces by his friends Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, Mary Cassatt, Gustave Moreau, and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.
