During World War II, more than 3,700 Japanese Oregonians were confined to internment camps. Their plight is commemorated by this life-size bronze sculpture of a child reaching out for an alighting butterfly as she awaits the train that will deliver her to a camp. Forced Journey is the centerpiece of the Japanese American Art Memorial in Eugene, Ore. www.lane.k12.or.us/tah/ejaam [2].
