A place to see big trees
The land of giants in the southern Sierra Nevada is home to the 2.7 million–pound General Sherman tree, the largest living thing on earth. Congress Trail is an easy two-mile loop through the heart of the 1,900-acre Giant Forest that takes you to other celebrity sequoias, including the General Lee and McKinley trees. Before heading home, squeeze in a drive through the famous Tunnel Log, a fallen sequoia with an eight-foot clearance. Information: (559) 565-3341.
