Road Journals Blog—Monterey definitely doesn’t lack for candy shops. Imagining an important candy financier working the registers, we stopped into the Candy Baron on Wave Street, where we were greeted with freshly made fudge and a sea of buckets filled with saltwater taffy, ranging in flavor from raspberry lemonade to buttered popcorn. Back on Cannery Row, we were seduced by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory’s displays of caramel apples, spackled with sprinkles, crushed Oreos, and nuts. Filled with sugar, I demanded we stop at “Missy Kitty,” an animatronic, fortune-telling cat. Although she showered me with lucky numbers and vaguely positive mantras, she should have helped me predict my imminent sugar crash.
What’s your favorite candy store?
