Exquisitely painted carousel horses in Santa Cruz, Calif., and carefully crafted ceramics in Helena, Mont., celebrate artistry and anniversaries.

Helena Ceramicists
For 60 years, hands have pushed clay at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Mont. Resident artist Jana Evans, who made this teapot in 2009, is one of more than 40 ceramicists with pieces in an anniversary exhibit celebrating the 500 artists who have studied at the center. Santa Cruz Carousel
This whinnying horse (left)—one of 73 carved by Danish immigrant Charles I.D. Looff for his beachside carousel in Santa Cruz, Calif.—thrilled its first rider on August 3, 1911. Over the summer, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is celebrating the centennial of this historic ride with special events, including the installation of a Wurlitzer band organ.
