A giant roadside rabbit greets passersby in Aloha, Ore.
Do you believe in Santa Claus? The tooth fairy? How about a 27-foot-tall rabbit? You will if you take a gander at Harvey, the bunny who guards the Harvey Marine storefront in Aloha, Ore.
"You have to wave at Harvey when you drive by, or else you’ll get a flat tire," warns store manager Victoria McCurry. Harvey is so popular that he even receives fan mail. "To locals, he’s almost a living entity," McCurry says. "Some people think he comes to life at night and walks around." That would account for certain seasonal items—a Christmas tree, a heart, a firecracker—turning up in his paw. But come Easter, Harvey is empty-handed. "He’s too busy delivering eggs," explains McCurry.
Say hello to Harvey 14 miles southwest of Portland at 21250 SW Tualatin Valley Highway (503) 649-5551, www.harvey-marine.com [3].
