For a diversion from the earthly pleasures of a Willamette Valley wine tour, you can take a quiet stroll around the 1,300 acres of Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey outside Lafayette, Ore. Old logging roads and trails crisscross thick forests and grassy fields where you might spot a monk in solitary prayer.

A hike to the top of the property’s 1,024-foot summit offers splendid views of the Coast Range and Mount Hood.
