The Stockman Bar in Livingston, Mont., delivers monster-sized hamburgers with fries.

Montana
Korner Klub Bozeman, Mont. “On the way to the Madison and Gallatin rivers, at Four Corners—the junction of Highways 84 and 191—this spot puts out a great burger in a wide range of choices,” says Charles Murtagh of Bozeman. “From chili burgers to cheeseburgers, they fill you up at a fair price. Don’t forget the made-from-scratch mac and cheese—it’s outtasight!” (406) 587-8874.

Missoula Club Missoula, Mont. “There’s no burger like a Mo burger,” says Suzanne Julin of Missoula. “Simply a hunk of grilled ground beef on a grilled bun with onion or cheese or not. A friend recently embarrassed me by requesting lettuce and tomato. The burgers have been satisfying Missoulians and visitors for decades—ex-President Clinton for one. Maybe it’s the ambience, about as far from a fern bar as you can get.” (406) 728-3740.

The Stockman Livingston, Mont. “The hamburger here has to make the list,” writes Lezlie Nelson of Livingston. “It’s a huge Angus burger cooked to order, served on a toasted bun with more than enough fries—all that for $7.50.” (406) 222-8455.

York Bar Helena, Mont. “Many of us here in Montana’s capital city think that the York Bar’s burgers are the best,” writes Shirley Bachini of Helena. “To find this great burger joint, just head east of town on York Road past Hauser Lake.” (406) 475-3751.

Wyoming
Billy’s Giant Hamburgers Jackson Hole, Wyo. “I’ve lived in this valley all my life, and everyone I know tells me the Billy’s burger is the best,” says Suzanne Marino of Jackson Hole. “It’s where the locals eat, so when you go there you know everyone.” [Marino should know—she and her business partner run the restaurant.] (307) 733-3279, cadillac-grille.com/Billys.html.

Chandler’s Ranch House Restaurant Dubois, Wyo. “I have eaten at the Gannett Grill in Lander, Wyo., and I agree—the burgers are great,” says Del Nelson of Hudson, Wyo. “But my favorite buffalo burger is Chandler’s. I’ve eaten buffalo in a lot of places but this is by far the best. Great fries, too.” (307) 455-2115.

Luxury Diner Cheyenne, Wyo. “This little place in an old trolley on Lincolnway has the best bacon cheeseburgers in Wyoming, Montana, or Alaska, I’m positive of that,” says Joe Prunty of Cheyenne. “They may just be the best in North America.” (307) 638-8971.
