Learn about more than a century of shipwrecks along Oregon’s Coos Bay. Historically, shipwrecks in Coos Bay were fairly common occurences, especially during winter months when strong storms could expose treacherous shallow sand beds. In Shipwreck!, the Coos Historical and Maritime Center presents photos, stories, and artifacts from 20 or so of the area's most dramatic shipping disasters since 1852. Among the items on display are a 16 foot-diameter steering wheel from an abandoned ferry and a teapot that one sailor savaged from a sinking ship and used to barter for a hot lunch once ashore.
