Historical cartoons created by renowned female artists are in the spotlight at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. Pretty in Ink: The Trina Robbins Collection showcases various works from the personal archives of celebrated comics artist and historian Trina Robbins, who collected comics, original art, photographs, and miscellaneous memorabilia documenting the history of women cartoonists from the late 20th century to present day. Featured cartoonists include Ethel Hays, Nell Brinkley, Ramona Fradon, and Edwina Dumm. Visitors can see an array of illustration styles—such as art deco, film noir, and childlike cartoon aesthetics—as well as diverse works ranging from large, hard-lined comic pages to whimsical drawings done in colored pencil.
