Doris Duke was so enchanted by her travels to the Middle East that the tobacco heiress commissioned a residence in Hawaii as a showcase for Islamic arts. For the first time, pieces from that home, dubbed Shangri La, can be seen on the mainland. Doris Duke's Shangri La, at Reno's Nevada Museum of Art, displays some 70 objects, including paintings, tapestries, and a 19th-century Indian jade-and-gold hand mirror.
