Art as Work, Work as Art: Wyoming's New Deal Legacy
2301 Central Avenue
Explore the legacy of New Deal–era art and
architecture in Cheyenne. In the country's Depression-era New Deal years, many public works and arts projects were funded by the government. That's the subject of Art as Work, Work as Art: Wyoming's New Deal Legacy at the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne. The exhibit features characteristic 1930s paintings, which often depicted blue-collar work and workers, and photos of architecture from the period. It was inspired by Virginia Stauter Pitman's Four Phrases of Labor, restored in 2010 after being salvaged from a trash bin years earlier.
